Updated – Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB)

New Eligibility Details:

  • If you earn $1000 per month or less, you can now apply for the benefit. This is expected to apply to part-time workers as well as contractors and the self-employed who can get some work, but have not had to stop working altogether
  • Seasonal workers who cannot find a job now due to COVID-19 can apply for the benefit
  • Any worker who ran out of their EI benefits since January 1st but cannot find work now because of COVID-19 can now apply for the benefit as well

 

Applications to the Canada Emergency Response Benefit are now open!

The earliest you can apply depends on the month in which you were born.

January thru March – Mondays
April thru June – Tuesday
July thru September – Wednesdays
October thru December – Thursdays
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays are freebies open to anyone who qualifies.

There are two ways to apply for Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB): online and through an automated phone system.

Online, you apply through the CRA’s My Account portal. If you don’t have one, here’s how to register for it. If applying by phone, call 1-800-959-2019 or 1-800-959-2041.
