October Chamber in Action

October was another busy month for the North Vancouver Chamber, filled with opportunities to connect with members, champion local businesses, strengthen partnerships, and celebrate our vibrant community.

From showcasing North Shore innovation and supporting business advocacy to welcoming international visitors and celebrating local milestones, here’s a look at the Chamber in action throughout October!

Connecting outdoors at Murdo Frazer Park

Fall colours, fresh air, and great conversations made for a wonderful morning at our October Walk & Talk in Murdo Frazer Park. Members enjoyed an opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, and build relationships while exploring one of North Vancouver’s beautiful green spaces.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to our Walk & Talk series Presenting Sponsor, PARC Retirement Living, for supporting these opportunities to connect.

Local innovation in action at Aqua-Guard

North Vancouver Chamber CEO Jonathan Mosley visited member Aqua-Guard Spill Response to see groundbreaking environmental technology developed and manufactured right here on the North Shore.

Aqua-Guard’s innovative system can mechanically recover ultra-thin oil sheens previously considered unrecoverable, demonstrating how local businesses are advancing environmental protection on a global scale.

Aqua-Guard is a valued contributor to the Chamber’s Marine & Waterfront Sector Roundtable and the reigning Innovation Award winner in our Business Excellence Awards program. Thank you to Nigel Bennett, Cameron Janz, and the team for showcasing this remarkable Canadian-made technology.

Tech Breakthrough with Chamber member SOMA Public Relations

We enjoyed an engaging evening at Tech Breakthrough, hosted by North Vancouver Chamber member SOMA Public Relations.

The timely panel discussion explored the challenges Canadian companies face in gaining traction and scaling their businesses, including the need to secure international customers before finding buyers here at home.

The conversation reinforced the importance of embracing calculated risks, supporting homegrown innovation, and choosing Canadian businesses and products whenever possible.

Celebrating the season at Canyon Frights

We enjoyed visiting our Annual Partner and longtime member Capilano Suspension Bridge Park for the kickoff of Canyon Frights, a festive Halloween experience in one of North Vancouver’s most iconic natural settings.

From the creative decorations to the warm hospitality, it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate a local tourism attraction that continues to bring visitors and economic activity to the North Shore.

Thank you to Sue Kaffka, Doug McCandless, and the Capilano team for the warm welcome!

Celebrating West Coast stories at the Ocean Film Festival

It was a packed house at Centennial Theatre for Our Ocean Film Fest.

We enjoyed an excellent lineup of films, with a particularly strong focus on West Coast stories that celebrated our connection to the ocean and coastal communities.

A big congratulations and thank you to Adriana Ramirez Leal and Alvaro Calderon for bringing this memorable cultural experience to North Vancouver!

A major milestone for North Vancouver’s shipbuilding industry

We were proud to witness a historic milestone for North Vancouver’s marine industry as our longtime Annual Partner, Seaspan, celebrated the keel laying of CCGS Imnaryuaq, the largest vessel ever to be built for the Canadian Coast Guard.

Approximately 2,000 Seaspan workers gathered to mark this achievement, highlighting the expertise, innovation, and skilled workforce driving Canada’s shipbuilding industry.

Building this state-of-the-art vessel locally supports good-paying jobs, strengthens supply chains, and creates economic opportunities while contributing to Canada’s Arctic sovereignty and security.

Congratulations to Seaspan and its skilled workforce on this remarkable achievement!

Advocating for local business with MP Braeden Caley

We were pleased to welcome North Vancouver–Capilano MP Braeden Caley to our office for a valuable conversation with members of the North Vancouver Chamber Board of Directors.

Our discussion focused on tariff relief, supporting local business growth, and opportunities to strengthen North Vancouver’s economy.

These conversations help ensure the priorities and challenges facing local businesses are heard by decision-makers as we continue advocating for a strong and prosperous North Vancouver business community.

Engaging members in the conversation about AI

Congratulations to Cathy Kuzel, winner of our recent LinkedIn contest exploring the biggest barriers to adopting artificial intelligence tools in the workplace!

Cathy stopped by the Chamber office to collect her prize from CEO Jonathan Mosley: a signed copy of Built to Think, the new book by North Vancouver Chamber member, AI strategist, and executive coach Leanne Terrace.

Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their perspectives on this important topic for businesses.

Catching up with Mt Seymour

We enjoyed catching up with our longtime North Vancouver Chamber member, Mt Seymour, and hearing what’s ahead for the upcoming ski season.

We’re looking forward to another great winter on the mountain and can’t wait to hit the slopes!

Building international business connections at Grouse Mountain

We were delighted to welcome the West Highland Chamber of Commerce and Scottish trade delegates to Grouse Mountain for a special networking reception with North Vancouver Chamber members.

Against a backdrop of spectacular mountain views, local and international business leaders exchanged ideas, made new connections, and explored opportunities to build relationships across the Atlantic.

From fine Scotch whisky and handcrafted gin to unique skincare products, our Scottish guests shared a taste of their businesses. The afternoon also highlighted the many similarities between the West Highlands and North Vancouver, including beautiful landscapes, outdoor recreation, and thriving small business communities.

Thank you to our Venue Sponsor, Grouse Mountain, and Event Supporter, Vancouver’s North Shore Tourism Association, for helping make this memorable gathering possible.

Supporting local business at InBlume Salon & Atelier

We enjoyed visiting North Vancouver Chamber member Rachel Lewis, founder and co-owner of InBlume Salon & Atelier, to deliver her prize from our Municipal Pre-Election Business Survey draw.

Located on West Third Street at Chesterfield, InBlume is part of a vibrant block of female-owned businesses, offering hair services, consignment clothing, and unique gifts with an emphasis on Canadian-made and locally made products.

Congratulations, Rachel, and thank you to all the local business leaders who participated in our survey and helped inform the Chamber’s advocacy priorities!

Celebrating local business and community this Halloween

We wrapped up October with a fun-filled Halloween weekend connecting with Chamber members and celebrating with the North Vancouver community!

On Friday evening, we joined our Annual Partner, Vancouver’s North Shore Tourism Association, for the launch party of its Craft Beer Festival, enjoying local craft beer, live music, and a festive atmosphere. Proceeds from the event supported Chamber member North Shore Neighbourhood House.

On Saturday, the Halloween spirit continued as more than 450 trick-or-treaters stopped by the Chamber office for sweet treats! Chamber Board members Lisa Warren, Brent Williston, and Sheila Lively joined in the fun.

It was wonderful to see so many families visiting local businesses and bringing the neighbourhood to life. Thank you to the Lower Lonsdale BIA and participating businesses for creating such a memorable community celebration!

Thank you to our members, partners, and community for another great month of connections and collaboration. We look forward to continuing to champion North Vancouver businesses and the people behind them!
